Roky Erickson. The Evil One. Find the latest tracks, albums, and images from Roky Erickson & the Aliens. Different from the 13th Floor Elevators' psychedelia, Roky Erickson devotes himself to writing and coming up with lyrics which resemble old horror flicks. View wiki. Roger Kynard Roky Erickson July 15, 1947 May 31, 2019 was an American musician and singer-songwriter. He was a founding member of the 13th Floor Elevators and a pioneer of the psychedelic rock genre. Born in Dallas, Texas, Erickson was interested in music from his youth, playing piano from age five and taking up guitar at 10. He attended school in Austin and dropped out of Travis High School in 1965, one month before graduating, rather than cut his hair to conform to the school dress code. As the song titles accurately suggest, the lyrics here all draw their subject matter from satanic and horror-movie subjects. Musically, the album is quite appealing. If the ghouls in the 1960s song Monster Mash were really hip, they'd be partying down to Don't Shake Me Lucifer, a rollicking 1950s-inspired number with clear nods to Little Richard, and they'd be slow-dancing to I Walked With a Zombie, a demented early-'60s ballad update. Rispondi Avvertimi Helpful. 18 agosto 2010. riferendosi a Roky Erickson And The Aliens, LP, Album, RE, Unofficial, 84463. Roky Erickson, an heroic icon of modern rock & roll and one of the best friends the music ever had, died in Austin, Texas today. Born there on July 15, 1947, Erickson had a visionary zeal rarely seen in 1965 when he co-founded the 13th Floor Elevators. The band's original songs, many written with lyricist Tommy Hall, coupled with Erickson's super-charged vocals and guitar sparked the psychedelic music revolution in the mid-1960s, and led to a new role of what rock could be. The Evil One is a solo album by 13th Floor Elevators singer Roky Erickson released in 1981. The songs were recorded in 1979 with producer Stu Cook, former bass player of Creedence Clearwater Revival. Some material from those sessions was also released on the 1980 CBS UK album Roky Erickson and the Aliens, later reissued as I Think of Demons. Cook played bass on two tracks, Sputnik and Bloody Hammer. The album is considered by many critics to be an eccentric cult classic. Pitchfork reviewer Jason Heller called the album brilliant.
