Info
Birth of the Cool is a compilation album by American jazz musician Miles Davis, released in 1957 on Capitol Records. It compiles eleven tracks recorded by Davis's nonet for the label over the course of three sessions during 1949 and 1950. Featuring unusual instrumentation and several notable musicians, the music consisted of innovative arrangements influenced by classical music techniques such as polyphony, and marked a major development in post-bebop jazz. As the title suggests, these recordings are. Формируйте собственную коллекцию записей Miles - Miles Davis. So dubbed because these three sessions - two from early 1949, one from March 1950 - are where the sound known as cool jazz essentially formed, Birth of the Cool remains one of the defining, pivotal moments in jazz. This is where the elasticity of bop was married with skillful, big-band arrangements and a relaxed, subdued mood that made it all seem easy, even at its most intricate. After all, there's a reason why this music was called cool it has a hip, detached elegance, never getting too hot, even as the rhythms skip and jump. We bring you: Impressions in Modern Music, with the great Miles Davis and his wonderful new organization. Davis was only 22 at the time of the Royal Roost gig. Best known as the trumpeter whod bravely succeeded Dizzy Gillespie in the Charlie Parker Quintet, he had been workshopping a less mercurial, more chamberlike strain of bop in collabora. An enhanced set, The Complete Birth of the Cool expands the original issue with previously bootlegged live recordings of Davis's nonet at the Royal Roost in New York in 1948. Although the sound quality is far from perfect, the performances are remarkable, and worth the additional expense for the serious fan. I own a lot of Miles Davis CDs and love them. Many of his albums push the bounds of sound and art, but here, we have just a full-on bebop extravaganza with pleasure and toe tapping in every track. I could listen to this album over and over each day and never grow tired of it. Verified Purchase
