Info
Great White Wonder, or GWW, is the first notable rock bootleg album, released in July 1969, and containing unofficially released recordings by Bob Dylan. It is also the first release of the famous bootleg record label Trademark of Quality or TMOQ. Several of the tracks presented here were recorded with The Band in the summer of 1967 in West Saugerties, New York, during the informal sessions that were later released in a more complete form in Dylan's 1975 album The Basement Tapes. Much of the other. The Great White Wonder. The Pooh Sticks rape, plunder and pillage the history of pop music with manic glee on The Great White Wonder, an engagingly witty and knowing handbook to cultural appropriation. Not so much a revisionist as an outright kleptomaniac, frontman Hue Pooh grabs handfuls of raw material - a Neil Young guitar solo here, a Lou Reed melody there - and molds his loot into marvelously ragged power-pop a completely original record by virtue of its total lack of originality, The Great White Wonder openly cribs titles like Sweet Baby. However, for me the 'Great White Wonder' will always be their finest hour. My two personal favourites are 'sweet baby James' and 'the rhythm of love', just very catchy tunes. However, the album doesn't have a week moment in it. Even the sleeve notes are perfect, as Trudi Tambourine takes us through how the album came around, influences etc. Anything the 'Pooh Sticks' were ever influenced by are given a mention. Huw lead singer and the gang are staging something of a comeback at
