These 15 cuts by Prince represent most of the best of his Warner period by containing most of the A-sides he cut for the label. That said, this was such a complex and creative time for the artist, that a single disc is not nearly enough, especially given the double-disc collection that includes the B-sides of which many are better than their flipped fronts, or even the triple disc which has the 12 mixes and remixes as well. Since Prince has died, I have struggled to find the ideal album to listen to in his honor. I don't think there is one for me. Instead, I can listen to these tracks and remember a time that Prince was immortal to me. The B sides and rarities are really what make this collection shine IMO. The hits just fit in the rotation and provide an alternative along the track list to the lesser known songs that are on these CDs. Read more. Album by Album: The Very Best of Prince greatest-hits collection is pushed down one spot on the May 14 Billboard 200 chart to No. 2 with 391,000 units though it gains by 118 percent and 216,000 copies sold up 116 percent. Why was the set pushed down despite its huge gain Beyonces Lemonade album debuted at No. Prince's 40 Biggest Billboard Hits. The Purple Rain soundtrack is also forced backward but with a gain, as it moves 2-3 with 150,000 units up 117 percent and 133,000 copies sold up 113 percent. This album stings because 1999 should have been the year of Prince, given how much he owned the turn-of-the-millennium in song. Instead, Rave landed like a wounded bird, trying its best to look composed and alert while folding an injured wing under its body. Princes glam-bohemian aesthetic sounds as impotent as the curly-fry guitars and tinny beats throughout these 18 tracks, even if hip-hop and alt-rock diehards may be interested in the collaborations with Chuck D, Gwen Stefani, Eve, and Ani DiFranco
