It's quite a feat to manufacture a 22-song compilation from Jones' slim legacy. RPM has managed the impossible on this disc, which has both sides of all five of her 1965-70 singles, as well as the 1983 House of the Ju-Ju QueenSex Machine single she recorded with the Clash as Janie Jones and the Lash and a bunch of demos, outtakes and alternates, most from the '60s. Janie Jones real name: Marion Mitchell born 1941 had been a popcabaret singer in the 1960s, her best results coming from the cackling novelty number Witches Brew which peaked at number 46 in the UK Singles Chart. She was sentenced to seven years imprisonment serving three years in 1974 for her involvement in controlling prostitutes. She is the subject of a song by The Clash called Janie Jones, which was released in 1977 on the band's eponymous debut album. It is the opening track on their eponymous debut album 1977. The song is named after Janie Jones, who was a famous madam in London during the 1970s and had been a pop singer during the 1960s. A live performance of Janie Jones is featured in the 1980 film Rude Boy, and the song has been on the soundtracks of other films as well. Janie's vocal talents are limited, but she sang with passion and with a sincerity. We're In Love With The World Of Janie Jones' is well worth a listen as far as I'm concerned, and I'd welcome another compilation from this once infamous woman in order to make her music more widely available again at a reasonable price. Subsequent releases failed to have any impact in the UK charts, but were all collected together and released on the compilation album 'We're in Love with the World of Janie Jones' in 1997. At the height of her fame as a singer, Jones appeared on various television programmes, including Thank Your Lucky Stars and Mike and Bernie's Show.
