Although there are very few rarities, it does include all of the band's important songs, including cuts that were only available on EPs, singles, and B-sides. As a result, it's a useful box set even for dedicated fans, presenting the band's evolution in a logical fashion. Nevertheless, compilations don't always suit the Clash well because The Clash and London Calling were powerful individual works in their own right, and hearing them cut up in this fashion alters their impact. It comprises 64 tracks on three compact discs, spanning the time period from their very first single White Riot, in 1977, through the Combat Rock album of 1982. It does not include material from the band's coda led by Joe Strummer and Paul Simonon, resulting in the final album Cut the Crap. It was initially released in longbox form. The Clash: Were an English rock band formed in London in 1976 as a key player in the original wave of British punk rock. They also contributed to the post-punk and new wave movements that emerged in the wake of punk and employed elements of a variety of genres including reggae, dub, funk, ska, and rockabilly. For most of their recording career, the Clash consisted of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Joe Strummer, lead guitarist and vocalist Mick Jones, bassist Paul Simonon, and drummer Nicky Topper Headon. Track 1-24 recorded live at the Lyceum Ballroom, The Strand, London 1979. Track 1-25 recorded for the motion picture 'Rude Boy'. Clash on Broadway encases 63 tracks on three discs and comes with an instructive booklet. Althought short-lived , The Clash left a legacy of intensity in music that few other bands can even dream of getting close to. From the early charge-the-gates , hit-and-run , assault urgency of Janie Jones and I'm so bored with the USA to their refining process thru London Calling and Sandinista , to their final experiments in Combat Rock , they always lead the path , they were never second to none. IT'S NOT A LIVE ALBUM which is probably a good thing - originally released as a celebration of the Clash's legendary week in NY this is the greatest hits set you've always wanted
