Anthem of the Sun is the second studio album by the Grateful Dead, released in 1968. It is the first album to feature second drummer Mickey Hart, who joined the band in September 1967. In 2003, the album was ranked number 287 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Making of the album The band had entered the American Studios in North Hollywood with the same producer, David Hassinger, as their eponymous debut album, in November 1967. However, the Dead were determined to make a more complicated recorded work than their debut release, as well as a read more. Anthem of the Sun was our vehicle, Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart said of the bands 1968 LP. It was our springboard into weirdness. The Deads 1967 self-titled debut introduced the world to a band striking an exuberant midpoint between roots, blues and psychedelic rock, but the album didnt quite capture what set them apart from the start: their thrilling live show. Anthem of the Sun came much closer. Overlaying studio recordings with flashes of uncut inspiration drawn from various gigs, the established lineup of Phil Lesh, Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Ron Pigpen. As the second long-player by the Grateful Dead, Anthem of the Sun 1968 pushed the limits of both the music as well as the medium. General dissatisfaction with their self-titled debut necessitated the search for a methodology to seamlessly juxtapose the more inspired segments of their live performances with the necessary conventions of a single LP. Released in 1968, Anthem of the Sun was the Grateful Deads second studio album. It has only five songs on it, which is the lowest number of songs between any of the bands studio albums. It is also the first album to feature their second drummer, Mickey Hart, who joined the band in September 1967. At the time of its release, the album was an experimental combination of studio and live recordings, with some tracks, notably Alligator, containing studio passages along with sections recorded at concerts the band performed. All songs written and composed by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter, except where noted. Stephen Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh, Robert Hunter 0:00 2. Grateful Dead - Anthem of. has been added to your Cart.
