Album 1975 24 Songs. Recorded in the summer of 1967 at the Big Pink house near Woodstock, N. this set captures Dylan and The Band woodshedding, bouncing ideas off the walls and each other. Steeped in traditional American roots music, these 24 tracks have the feel of a laid-back song swap. Though many of the tracks here are silly, sarcastic, or just downright weird, some display an elegance, beauty, and gravity that add much-needed balance. View all Features. This is a really good live rendition of a Bob Dylan and the Band concert. Hits all the high points, and the Band smokes. No more need be said. It's here we get a little bogged down by the second Band set. As mentioned previously, The Shape I'm In & The Weight are not up to other live versions of the songs. But hold on to your hat, Dylan comes back on and we get the best song of the night, All Along The Watchtower and it JUST rocks. If I have only one complaint about it, it's too short. When the band moved into Big Pink in the spring of 1967, the house looked as if it had been tenanted by little more than a housewife with a dustmop who only crossed its threshold once a week to clean it. A Portrait of the Band as Young Hawks: The Last Waltz. The band, of course, had spent its six previous years living in hotels, rooming houses, motels, and the front parlors of friends apartments, and what the band brought to Big Pink was the dust of the road. Whether or not Dylan, even in absentia, can be heard on the record as a sixth member of the band, Music From Big Pink will have to be judged on its own merits, not his. Probably it wont be.
