Another Self Portrait, the tenth volume in Bob Dylan's official bootleg series, assembles a slew of unreleased tracks, un-and over-dubbed alternate takes, and demos, mostly from 1970's Self Portrait and New Morning sessions - they were recorded simultaneously and released within months of one another - and other material. Self Portrait Bob Dylan album. Self Portrait is the tenth studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on June 8, 1970, by Columbia Records. Self Portrait was Dylan's second double album after Blonde on Blonde, and features many cover versions of well-known pop and folk songs. Also included are a handful of instrumentals and original compositions. Most of the album is sung in the affected country crooning voice that Dylan had introduced a year earlier on. Most of Another Self Portrait comes from those sessions, highlighting Dylans breadth of drive at a time when many thought he had no direction forward. The horns on this sets New Morning are busy in the verses but a delightful Stax-like reveille in the chorus, while a pre-overdub version of Self Portraits ghost story Days of 49 has more room for the haunting in Dylans voice.
