Ballin' Jack is one of the most well rounded of these. Their music has a heavy rock beat-sometimes with a Hendrix' funk groove-and features sharp brass attacks and complex chord progressions. Unlike Blood Sweat and Tears or mid-70s Chicago, Ballin' Jack does not seem interested in an AM radio ballad to get them in the top 40. There is little blue eyed soul and no love songs here. Their work is much more hard and funky than either of these bands, yet the writting may be the most advanced out of the three. Blues Soul Funk. Buzzard Luck. Ballin' Jack was an American horn rock group formed in Seattle, Washington in 1969 by Luther Rabb bass and vocals and Ronnie Hammon drums. They had a minor hit in 1970 with Super Highway, which hit 90 on the Billboard Top 100. Rabb and Hammon were inspired by the success of their childhood friend, Jimi Hendrix. They added Glenn Thomas on guitar and, on the horns, were Jim Coile and Tim McFarland. They moved to Los Angeles, California and lived in a mansion home-studio near the Sunset Strip. Baltik 1.
