John Haughm of Agalloch asserted that the 2011 Grau releases are not licensed and therefore bootlegs, not endorsed by the band. This was never legally substantiated as an amenable agreement was reached between all parties and these continue to be officially sold in Europe.

Agalloch's second album, The Mantle, is a leaps-and-bounds improvement over their first full-length, 1999's Pale Folklore. The improved production is the first thing that stands out here, evident in the more detailed arrangements, the classier guitar tones, and the fuller overall sound. That said, the music itself has also evolved and matured. Released August 13, 2002. The Mantle Tracklist. A Celebration for the Death of Man. Agalloch's 2002 album, The Mantle, is about 100 more mellow than their first full length release, Pale Folklore. The results are absolutely stunning and no-less-than astonishing. In fact, I don't know if I'm even capable of putting this album's greatness and prettiness into words.
