Bye-Bye Borderline is ok but i miss the old days of Zeromancer like Eurotrash, and Sinners International their last album before this one The Death of Romance was better. This one seems to be lacking that element that made me fall in love with Zeromancer. The only good songs on here are Auf-Weidershen Boy, Lcyd, Bye-Bye Borderline and Montreal. Read more. Pretty much this album is all about the chorus. The lyrics are very forgettable. Unlike the past two albums you don't have to skip over the first couple tracks.

First song is an in-your-face track. Why be someone you are not, Zeromancer? The s/t track has a great outburst of melancholy when the chorus hits. Best chorus they've come up with in a long time. Bad song structure after second chorus. LYCD has some very interesting vocal pitch in the chorus "Luh-uvvvvvv". So the first 3 tracks put the album into full-drive. Then...
Track 4 really kills the enjoyment since it's just a crappy loud track. rah rah rah. We have a 'Mosquito Coil' moment when the track ends with a cool outro that one wishes the artist had used in place of a not well-thought out track. 'Manoeuvres' has grown on me. I like it despite what initially seemed like emo poppy lameness. 'Weakness' sucks. 'Lace and Armour' is a filler 'edgy' track. "now I know your name so you should know my name" -- I think the delivery of that line is cool though. 'Montreal' was good, but now seems lacking. 'Ash Wednesday' is average. I really really enjoy one of the verses which is delivered in such a way that you have no choice but to imagine sick imagery "I want to worship you till the end of time. Let me take you to Hollycaust. Let's roll in dust".

The final track pisses me off. It has a great instrumental and really fit well with the snowy environment I listened to it in; however, the song goes to instant garbage once the lyrics "let me put the fire in your eyes" come in. Wish they'd rework this track because it's such a shame to waste such a lovely instrumental. (Edit: Actually it gets sketchy once the lyrics "I'm not shy" come in.)

The album is enjoyable enough if you're a fan of the band but it's a constant reminder to me of lowered standards. The band is so close, soooo close to getting that poppy-industrial sound into a great album. It's very frustrating. I listened to "Manoeuvres' with the vocals removed and this is the sound I'd like them to pursue for the next album. Or something like Greed - Rolling Hills. Please think about it.
