Info
Wynton Marsalis is the debut album of jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis. It was released in 1982 by Columbia. It features seven tracks, three composed by Marsalis. The album peaked at number 165 on the Billboard 200 and number nine on the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. Wynton Marsalis trumpet. Branford Marsalis tenor and soprano saxophones. Herbie Hancock piano. Kenny Kirkland piano. Ron Carter double bass. Charles Fambrough double bass. Clarence Seay double bass. Tony Williams drums. Wynton Marsalis' three-part Soul Gestures in Southern Blue of which this CD is the final section is a disappointment. None of the themes are particularly memorable and, although the individual solos are fine, not much really happens overall it is a rather weird tribute to the blues. Actually, the main significance to this particular set is that the trumpeter had for the first time put together the nucleus to his septet. Album 2011 5 Songs. My Funny Valentine feat.
