Info

White Blood Cells is the third studio album by American rock duo the White Stripes, released on July 3, 2001. Recorded in less than one week at Easley-McCain Recording in Memphis, Tennessee, and produced by frontman and guitarist Jack White, it was the band's final record released independently on Sympathy for the Record Industry. Bolstered by the hit single Fell in Love with a Girl, the record propelled the White Stripes into early commercial popularity and critical success. In 2012, Rolling Stone. In the next episode of our new series, Liner Notes, we take an annotated look at The White Stripes' classic album, White Blood Cells, 15 years after Blood Cells is the third album by American rock band The White Stripes, released in 2001. The band's commercial breakthrough, White Blood Cells eventually reached 61 on the Billboard 200, going gold and selling over 900,000 units. The album also reached 58 in the United Kingdom, being bolstered in both territories by Fell in Love with a Girl and its use of Lego animation in its Michel Gondry-directed music video. Stylus Magazine rated it the 15th greatest album of 2000-2005. As produced by Doug Easley, it sounds exactly how an underground sensation's breakthrough album should: bigger and tighter than their earlier material, but not so polished that it will scare away longtime fans. Admittedly, White Blood Cells lacks some of the White Stripes' blues influence and urgency, but it perfects the pop skills the duo honed on De Stijl and expands on them. The White Stripes. Alternative 2001. Alternating between a raunchy, blues-inflected vibe and a more genteel, countrified approach to their DIY sound, Jack and Meg White have us stomping our boots to the jumping Hotel Yorba and Little Room, and banging our heads to the hard-hitting Fell in Love with a Girl and the swampy, distortion-fueled Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground. White Blood Cells surges with classic rock's grittier moments, stomping around like the MC5 and, on the instrumental Aluminum, Sabbath. The guitar echoes the second half of Neil Young's Rust Never Sleeps. Here, the White Stripes are the most experimental they get, which is to say not very, though the song reminds me of the ragged power of Royal Trux without the pointless artiness. The Same Boy You've Always Known is another high point. About White Blood Cells. The third LP by The White Stripes is widely considered their breakthrough album. Released in 2001, it was lead by singles such as Hotel Yorba and Fell In Love With A Girl. The song and music video for Fell in Love With A Girl was what finally brought the band into the limelight. The album was recorded in only a week at Easley McCain Recording Studio in Memphis and is entirely produced by frontman Jack White. White Blood Cells Q&A.
