The name is a parody of the music festival Lollapalooza. After his successful album Off the Deep End, Yankovic decided to return to the studio in 1992. One can tell just by listening to Alapalooza that Weird Al Yankovic was having a hard time writing clever material to coincide with the current musical trends. The album's title is indeed appropriate - the musical content varies from track to track. Many of the parodies on the album, such as Jurassic Park and Achy Breaky Song, must have been meant to be on an earlier album meant to satirize the real songs when they were on top of the charts, but somehow were never released until now. Weird Al Yankovic - lead and background vocals, keyboards and accordion. Jim West - guitars, banjo, mandolin, and background vocals. Steve Jay - bass guitar and background vocals. The album was the first of many produced by former The McCoys guitarist Rick Derringer. Mostly recorded in March 1982, the album was released by Rock 'n Roll Records as an LP and on Compact Cassette in 1983. Consisting of five direct parodies and seven original songs, Weird Al Yankovic parodies pop and rock music of the late 1970s and early 1980s, and satirizes American culture and experiences of the same time. As a lifelong Weird Al fan, I was disappointed when I recently realized I owned most of his older albums on cassette only. I've recently taken to rectifying this, one CD at a time. Alapalooza was just as enjoyable now as it was back in the days of listening to it on my Walkman
