A collection of traditional songs of the Manding, performed with accompaniment on the kora by professional musicians of The Gambia. A booklet accompanies the record in which the complete song texts in Mandinka and English are included, together with ample historical, critical and analytical notes for each song.

The recordings were made in 1970 during the course of doctoral research in Mandinka music.

The music of the Gambia is closely linked musically with that of its neighbor, Senegal, which surrounds its inland frontiers completely. Among its prominent musicians is Foday Musa Suso.
