Blood on the Tracks is the fifteenth studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on January 20, 1975 by Columbia Records. The album marked Dylan's return to Columbia Records after a two-album stint with Asylum Records. Dylan commenced recording the album in New York City in September 1974. In December, shortly before Columbia was due to release the album, Dylan abruptly re-recorded much of the material in a studio in Minneapolis. The final album contains five tracks from New York. Blood on the Tracks is one such masterwork. This album demonstrates the breadth and depth of Dylan's imagination, power and musical craft. It is an album for the ages, completely above and beyond the need for validation from prize-distributing Norwegians. I have bought 'Blood on the Tracks' by the 'Mighty Dyl' in various formats over the years from '75 upon its initial release on vinyl through to the Cd yearsStandard version Millennium Version and SACD. I just can't get enough of a classic album. Blood on the Tracks is pleasing and complete enough to visit repeatedly, until the syllables become words, the words resolve into meanings, and all of it becomes internalized, a space accessible even without the presence of the album. Perhaps the least dated of Dylans recordings, there is a nakedness to everything. Untainted by the politics and cool of the 60s or the gated drums and overdubbed productions of the 80s, Blood on the Tracks hits with the same immediacy in the 21st century as it did in 1975.
