Info
Hymns to the Silence is the twenty-first studio album by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison. It was his first studio double album. Morrison recorded the album in 1990 in Beckington at Wool Hall Studios and in London at Townhouse and Westside Studios. Morrison's use of various musical styles was well received, as were the more worldly-themed songs on an. Hymns to the Silence. Your Rating. Overview . Hymns To The Silence. Van Morrison. An underated album from Van Morrison's 'spiritual phase' of songwriting it includes fine songs such as Why must i explain , Village Idiot and a torch song literally entitled Carrying the Torch which is my favourite song on this album. A shame that this double CD is still not readily available and is now expensive to buy -reissue this album soon please. Hymns to the Silence is a particularly ambitious move on Morrisons part, a double album of mostly original material that follows his most recent album, the excellent Enlightenment, by less than a year. Like Enlightenment, Hymns draws on such typical Morrison obsessions as nostalgia, wanderlust and the quest for spiritual and carnal fulfillment. Released in 1991 being Van Morrisons 21st studio album as well being a double containing quite a mix of styles covering Spiritual, Celtic, Narrative, Rock, Jazz and with a touch of Blues thrown in for good measure. Eclectic is one description but personally for me its just Van The Man doing what he has always done mixing it up but not just keeping various styles to predominately one album here we are getting them all. I say that from having explored his other songs on the topic of his formative years, it makes for very interesting listening. All and all this is one really fine release and should not be missed.
