Despite the name, Uncle Sam and the War Machine were neither political nor heavy. The band was an example of mid-sixties organ-driven pop rock. "Spy Girl" is a romp based on the spy show craze of the time. Kind of like a lighter and funnier Beau Brummels. "Hold On" is a straight ahead b-side ballad.

US & the WM were out of Springfield, MA. How they wound up on a Cleveland label, I have no idea. Greg Bullen went on to develop a reputation as a boogie woogie and blues player fronting the band Bald Mountain Road. He later became a serious academic pianist/composer.

There was a rumor US & the WM once opened for Zappa at Fillmore East, but I've not been able to confirm
