Take One - a solid and dynamic debut for T. It would've been easy to pay tribute to his legendary father by attempting either his songbook or his to extrapolate on his father's style. Instead T. Monk makes his own way by assembling a stellar cast of musicians on some dynamic, exciting and mostly upbeat pieces. Monk would go on in the future to build off his father's legacy and establish his own place within that context- curious parties should check out the sublime Monk on Monk, but this album is largely disposable.
