This deluxe 4-CD set includes Townes Van Zandt's seven studio albums from his creative peak between 1968 and 1978, plus eight live songs performed in July 1973 (as taken from the Live At The Old Quarter, Houston, Texas live album) which do not appear on the seven studio albums. The box also includes a 52-page illustrated booklet including a detailed biography, as well as a track-by-track commentary.

This is the original deluxe long-box format. Later reissued in short-box format. The reissue includes four extra tracks on the fourth disc after the Flyin' Shoes album which were also released as bonus tracks on Charly Records CD reissues of that album (first in 1998, and also in 2003).

Texas Troubadour is a four-disc box set that packages the late songwriter Townes Van Zandt's first seven studio albums for the Poppy and Tomato labels: For the Sake of the Song 1968 Our Mother the Mountain 1969 Townes Van Zandt 1970 Delta Momma Blues 1971 High, Low and In Between 1972 The Late Great Townes Van Zandt 1972, and Flyin' Shoes 1978. In addition, there are four studio outtakes from 1972-73 and a decent portion of Live at the Old Quarter, Houston issued in 1973. Charly reproduces the original cover art in miniature, two covers to each CD. Townes Van Zandt is the third studio album by the American singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt, released in September 1969 by Poppy Records. It includes re-recordings of four songs from his 1968 debut album, including the first serious song he ever wrote, Waitin' Around To Die. Townes Van Zandt was recorded at Bradley's Barn in Nashville. The album consists of ten originals and showcase Van Zandt's poetic lyrics and trademark, uncluttered fingerpicking. It also includes new versions of four songs. Texas Troubadour. Box Set.
