Toshimaru Nakamura and Tetuzi Akiyama - Meeting At Off Site Vol. Another set of live improvisations featuring Ami Yoshida, Brett Larner, Thomas Ankersmit, Taku Sugimoto, Tetsuro Yasunaga, Toshihiro Koike, Utah. Toshimaru Nakamura is a Japanese musician, active in free improvisation and Japanese onkyo. He began his career playing rock and roll guitar, but gradually explored other types of music, even abandoning guitar, and started working on circuit bending. He uses a mixing console as a live, interactive musical instrument: Nakamura plays the 'no-input mixing board', connecting the input of the board to the output, then manipulating the resultant audio feedback. Tetuzi Akiyama and Toshimaru Nakamura have been performing together since 1997. They often have been hosting guests to form a trio or quartet, and this became one of the defining characteristics of their duo. In 1998 Nakamura and Akiyama together with Taku Sugimoto started a series of monthly concerts at Bar Aoyama in Tokyo. It was called The Improvisation Meeting at Bar Aoyama and each session featured the trio with one or two guest artists. The series moved to different locations and eventually settled as Meeting at Off Site at the Off Site gallery. Few compilations were released, documenting the concerts there.
