In a sense, this album was sort of a Detroit reunion, since two-thirds of the group were originally from the Motor City Coltrane was from Philly and Sulieman from Florida. It's amazing how many modern jazzmen who came to prominence in the 1950s were from Detroit I can think of at least 20. It's not the greatest or most important jazz record of the 1950s, but THE CATS offers up some very enjoyable hard bop fare. And it's got Coltrane, so how could it be anything but good. Read more.
