Runt is the self-titled debut album of the band Runt, released June 1970 on Ampex Records. Runt was a trio consisting of Todd Rundgren guitars, keyboards, vocals, Hunt Sales drums, and Tony Fox Sales bass. The Ballad of Todd Rundgren. The Ballad of Todd Rundgren is the second album by American singer-songwritermusician Todd Rundgren, released in 1971. Most of the album's 12 tracks are piano-led ballads, with the only exceptions being the rock tunes Bleeding and Parole and the anthem Chain Letter. Rundgren himself wrote, arranged, and produced every tune on The Ballad of Todd Rundgren, as well. Such isolationism lends Runt its unique atmosphere - it is the insular work of a fiercely talented artist finally given the opportunity to pursue his off-kilter musical vision. From the moment the slow, bluesy psychedelic grind of Broke Down and Busted starts the album, it's apparent that Rundgren could never have made Runt with the Nazz - and that's before the introspective ballads or the willfully strange stuff kicks in. Runt is the first solo album by Todd Rundgren. It peaked at 185 on the Billboard USA charts, and lone single We Gotta Get You a Woman was a top 20 hit. The recording has served as somewhat of a template for much of Rundgrens career, with its variety of musical styles along with Rundgrens multiple instrument versatility and layered vocals. After Nazz broke up in 1969, Rundgren signed with Albert Grossman, moved to New York, and began working on production and engineering projects including The Bands Stage Fright.
