Info
Apocalypse is the second studio album by American musician Thundercat. It was released in July 2013 under the label Brainfeeder. In February 2014, Thundercat released a double video on the MySpace website for the 10th and 11th tracks from the album, respectively titled Evangelion and We'll Die, which were both directed by the photographer B Brian Cross, who also shot the album art. Stephen Bruner born October 19, 1984, better known by his stage name Thundercat, is an American multi-genre bass guitarist, producer singer and by Thundercat, released 03 June 2013 1. Tenfold 2. Heartbreaks Setbacks 3. The Life Aquatic 4. Special Stage 5. Tron Song 6. Seven 7. Oh Sheit it's X 8. Without You 9. Lotus and the Jondy 10. Evangelion 11. We'll Die 12. A Message for Austin, Praise the Lord, Enter the Void. ComfeeCozee An absolute classic from our new age funk maestro Thundercat. Find you a man that loves you like Stephen loves his cat. Favorite track: Tron Song. One of the many charms of Thundercat's first album, The Golden Age of Apocalypse, was the manner in which the supernaturally skilled bassist seemed to wing his way through songwriting - stumbling upon ideas, going with the flow, goofing off - and come up with brilliance. On his sharper, more focused second album, he works through anguish - the loss of close friend and musical partner Austin Peralta - with some staggeringly emotive and tightly composed content. Apocalypse gets immediate real quick. Opener Tenfold takes off with the sort of astral-jazz keyboards you might hear on a Lonnie Liston Smith interlude filtered through the TONTO synthesizer. But the real pulse is an insistent pounding, chord-blurring 1-2-3-4 hardcore rumble that offsets Bruner's see-saw falsetto, tersely belting out sonic prayers two or three words at a time. It sets the precedent for an album that brings its catchiest tendencies to the forefront and lets the virtuosic stuff in through side channels. What comes up as a whole is this odd but endearing blend of plainspok. Album 2013 12 Songs. Apocalypse Thundercat. On his second album, Apocalypse, Thundercat pairs up with executive producer Flying Lotus to pull the veil back and reveal the simple truths of the cycle of life, for all its beauty and destruction. An album about loss and rebuilding, trying to gain something back, and capturing that moment of clarity where one finally finds feet back on the ground again. Bringing a fusion of pop, soul, electronica, prog rock and funk into an unexplored dimension, the album slowly descends and tunnels to the core of what it takes to grasp peace, at a time that it seems most far. Thundercat - Apocalypse review: Heartbreaks, setbacks, on a special stage - oh sheeit, I can't do it without you. It's simple, we'll die. Apocalypse is much more than a vessel for technical masturbation - it is a singularly stirring emotional statement dedicated to life, debasing any possible suggested air of complexity. Life has many Heartbreaks Setbacks , is a very Special Stage , is difficult Without You , is simple when you think with your heart and mind as one Evangelion , and eventually, Well Die. Genre: Neo-Soul. This album is the full realisation of his talent as a bass player, musician and, most importantly, a songwriter. Apocalypse is, in short, a supreme triumph. Full Review
