The Second Annual Report is the debut album by English industrial music pioneers Throbbing Gristle, released in November 1977 through Industrial Records. It is a combination of live and studio recordings made from October 1976 to September 1977. The Second Annual Report is considered to be influential within electronic music, being one of the first industrial music albums. Throbbing Gristle's full 1st studio LP Very Friendly The First Annual Report of Throbbing Gristle. Recorded in 1975. Very Friendly 00:00 2. Following a small quantity of limited cassette releases, 1977's The Second Annual Report was the formal debut of British industrial pioneers Throbbing Gristle. The First Annual Report was shelved by the group, and has only surfaced via unauthorized releases and bootlegs. As with most of TG's output, and certainly everything prior to the 1978 single United, this stuff is harsh, bleak, and utterly uncompromising. The Second Annual Report of Throbbing Gristle. So wrote Claude Bessy in the liner notes to Throbbing Gristle's Greatest Hits, one of the five classic Throbbing Gristle albums Industrial Records have just reissued, and which now sit upon my desk, uncanny and accusatory, over 30 years after that pre-emptive fit of snark. Throbbing Gristle were never meant to be reliable, but here they come again, ready to be harvested by the very culture industry they alternately solicited and spat upon so long ago. Discover more music, concerts, videos, and pictures with the era of which Throbbing Gristles debut LP dropped was at a perfect time where freedom of speech and rebellion were taking hold in England at a time where punk rock was exploding, and all sights were on one seminal band: Sex Pistols. Where Never Mind the Bollocks seems extremely tame in comparison today, The Second Annual Report still has a relenting hold on its listener and had the media circus actually cottoned on to this album at the time, I suspect things might have been a little different. Luis Mejia - Throbbing Gristle's The Second Annual Report was, at least in release order, their first concrete work as a band and maybe the first so called industrial album to exist. Through the listens of same-named songs and few cohersive avant-garde electronic inclinations, it's notorious for any advanced listener how the album differs from awesome pieces like . and Jazz Funk Greats it's less scary, a little more compelling, and almost completely anti-melodic. Included in this set is a second disc with live recordings mainly from 1977 that work very well alongside the original album - Forced Entry and Tesco Disco especially are both atmospheric in a typically awful way
