Info
This Heat is the debut studio album by English experimental rock band This Heat. Recorded between 1976 and 1978, it was released in September 1979 by record label Piano. In a contemporary review for NME, Andy Gill wrote: For much of This Heat's album, it's difficult and at times impossible to decipher which instrument is playing what. This is some indication of their intentions, and the way This Heat set about realising those intentions. Vivien Goldman, writing in Melody Maker, remarked that This. This Heat - Repeat 1993. This Heat were an English experimental rock band, formed in early 1976 in Camberwell, London by multi-instrumentalists Charles Bullen guitar, clarinet, viola, vocals, tapes, Charles Hayward drums, keyboards, vocals, tapes and Gareth Williams keyboard, guitar, bass, vocals, tapes. This Heat were active in the ascendancy of British punk rock and post-punk, but stood apart from those scenes due to an experimental, confrontational, and politically charged approach. This Heat's commercial success was. Light in the Attic. Modern Classics Recordings. A set of reissues of the British experimental trios non-album work, including a Peel sessions EP, live LP, and posthumous anthology, reveals the groups restless, radical openness. This Heats music has always felt unstable and unsettled. The work that this London post-punk trio created between 1979 and 1981, over two studio albums and a lone EP, was a charged concoction made from equal parts dub, world music, musique concrète-inspired tape-loop experiments, and progressive rock. There were precedents for Repeat - Test Card, the drone which introduced their debut album, and GraphicVarispeed on the b side of Health and Efficiency a version of which is included in the box set reissue of this CD - but extended instrumental pieces like these are to be found nowhere else in their back catalogue. It's a powerful and highly effective album, but not particularly representative of their other releases. Repeat is an extraordinary piece of tape loop, guitar, bass, drums, and electronics that picks up the mantle of rock experimentation left by Can and Faust and creates a sound so influential as to echo well into the next decade. Fans of Tortoise, Brise-Glace, Photek, Oval, and Mouse on Mars take note: It all started with this 1980 single, reissued here as a 3 CD
