Info

Who Are You is the eighth studio album by English rock band the Who, released on 18 August 1978 by Polydor Records in the United Kingdom and MCA Records in the United States. Who Are You was the Who's last album to feature Keith Moon as their drummer, who died three weeks after it was released. The ironic nature of the text Not to Be Taken Away that. Who Are You is the title track on The Who's 1978 album, Who Are You, the last album released by the group before Keith Moon's death in September 1978. It was written by Pete Townshend and released as a double-A sided single with the John Entwistle composition Had Enough, also featured on the album. The song was one of the band's biggest hits in North America, peaking at number 7 in Canada and at number 14 in the US, and has become one of the band's signature tunes at their live shows. The piano on. Who Are You, composed by Pete Townshend, was the title track on English rock band The Who's 1978 release, Who Are You, the last album released Who - Who Are You 1978. Update Required To play the media you will need to either update your browser to a recent version or update your Flash plugin. Who Are You was spun out of the night that Townshend, already drunk after hours of financial haggling, half-recognized two members of the Sex Pistols in a bar: that is, he thought either Steve Jones or Paul Cook was Johnny Rotten. Corrected, he felt even more confused: Why cant I see straight. Attention, reads a sticker on the album cover: Who Are You Side 2, Track 4 contains lyrics that may offend. We can thank the Supreme Court - which in its ultimate wisdom recently granted the FCC the power to censor radio - for that one, but what might these offensive lyrics be Theres a lot of emotion in this song - is that now illegal . Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn August 20th 1978, Who Are You by The Who entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position 70 and on October 29th, 1978 it peaked at 14 for 2 weeks and spent 15 weeks on the Top 100. Between 1965 and 1984 the English quartet had twenty-seven Top 100 records their biggest hit was I Can See For Miles, it peaked at 9 for 2 weeks on November 19th, 1967. On the Who's first album in 13 years, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend sound invigorated, even in songs that address 70-something concerns. The word old feels wrong, of course, when 75 is the new 40 and the Who have been bashing it out on the road just like Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones, the whole OK-boomer lot of them playing like there was plenty of tomorrow. Amid that live vigor, McCartney and Mick & Keith arent so eager to devote nearly a whole album to ruminating on autumnal things. Townshend Not so avoidant. On the Who's final album with Keith Moon, their trademark honest power started to get diluted by fatigue and a sense that the group's collective vision was beginning to fade. As instrumentalists, their skills were intact. More problematic was the erratic quality of the material, which seemed torn between blustery attempts at contemporary relevance Sister Disco, New Song, Music Must Change and bittersweet insecurity Love Is Coming Down. Who Are You kept up with the times. Though punk poured scorn on early 70s rocknroll superstars, most of the Class Of 77 retained respect for The Who. Released on 18 August 1978, The Whos identically-monikered eighth studio LP then earned the band a gold disc in the UK and double-platinum sales in America, yet the record was something of a triumph over adversity and nearly didnt get made at all
