It was released as the first single from their second album, Room on Fire, and was written by Julian Casablancas. Billboard's Wes Orshoski wrote of the song: Julian Casablancas' sleepy vocals arrive in synch with a nerdy, very '80s keyboard that sounds so much cooler than it probably should against guitarists Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr. s raw, fast strumming. 12:51 is the first single from Room on Fire, the second album of American band The Strokes. It was released in the US on November 4, 2003. It was formerly known as Supernova. Lead singer Julian Casablancas has said the songs title is a reference to the habit of people looking at clocks before they have sex. The music video, which was directed by Roman Coppola, is very heavily influenced by the Disney movie Tron.
