The Specials is the debut album by British ska revival band The Specials. Released on 19 October 1979 on Jerry Dammers' 2 Tone label, the album is seen by some as the defining moment in the UK ska scene. Produced by Elvis Costello, the album captures the disaffection and anger felt by the youth of the UK's concrete jungle-a phrase borrowed from Bob Marley's 1973 album Catch a Fire but equally appropriately used here to describe the grim, violent inner cities of 1970s Britain. Then and Now is a 2004 greatest hits compilation album by The Who released internationally by Polydor Records and by Geffen Records in the United States. It features 18 Who classics and two new tracks-Real Good Looking Boy and Old Red Wine-which were the first Who originals since Dig from Pete Townshend's 1989 album The Iron Man. Real Good Looking Boy is a tribute to Elvis Presley, and Old Red Wine is a tribute to former band member John Entwistle, who died in 2002. The album was re-released. inner cities. And then it gets personal. It's Up to You throws down the gauntlet for those who disliked the group, its music, and its stance, while simultaneously acting as a rallying cry for supporters. Too Much Too Young shows the Specials' disdain for teen pregnancy and marriage Stupid Marriage drags two such offenders before a Judge Dread-esque magistrate, with Terry Hall playing the outraged and sniping prosecutor while Little Bitch is downright nasty. The Specials began at the same time as Rock Against Racism, which was first organised in 1978. According to Dammers, anti-racism was intrinsic to the formation of the Specials, in that the band was formed with the goal of integrating black and white people. In the first few months of 1981, the band took a break from recording and touring, and then released Ghost Town, a non-album single, which hit No. 1 in 1981. At their Top of the Pops recording of the song, however, Staple, Hall and Golding announced they were leaving the band. Golding later said: We didn't talk to the rest of the guys. On Then and Now, Townshend has history on his side and in his face. The record is front-loaded with eighteen greatest hits, from 1965s I Cant Explain to 81s You Better You Bet : a still-exhilarating parade of power-chord might and a thrilling lesson in the elevated poetry of revolt and interior conflict. The album then ends with the first fruits of the Whos latest sessions, and it is a perilous juxtaposition. Old Red Wine written by Townshend in homage to John Entwistle even as the Who kept touring after the bassists death in 2002 is a big, tumbling elegy with gale-force echoes. The Specials The Specials Review. Released 1979. This first album was produced by another then angry young man, Elvis Costello who kept the rawness of their club heritage intact. It was a classic example of a band making an almost perfect first album, acting as both a mission statement the rise of right wing groups opposed by the message of Two Tone equality and as an alternative way to have fun without having to pogo or spit
