Stars and Hank Forever was the second and last release in the American Composers Series by the avant garde band The Residents. The album was released in 1986. This particular release featured a side of Hank Williams songs and a medley of John Philip Sousa marches. This was also the last studio album to feature Snakefinger. Kaw-Liga samples the rhythm to Michael Jackson's Billie Jean and did well in Europe it is as close as the Residents ever got to a bona fide commercial hit. Stars & Hank Forever is a 1986 album by The Residents, and the second and to date final instalment in their American Composer Series, following 1984's George & James. Stars & Hank Forever pays homage to the work of Hank Williams, Sr. 1923-1953 and John Philip Sousa 1854-1932, and was the last studio album by the group to feature their long-time collaborator Snakefinger. The Residents reportedly intended their American Composers Series to last 16 years and cover heaven knows how many volumes. Stars & Hank Forever, which finds the Residents interpreting music by Hank Williams and John Philip Sousa, was the second volume, and it's probably just as well that it turned out to be the last. Album 1986 7 Songs. Stars and Hank Forever. Alternative & Hank Forever did much better than George & James had due to a large part to accessibility of the Hank Williams side. Stars & Hank did so well, in fact, that Torso Records in Europe remixed the Kaw-liga track into a couple of singles.
