It is the first live album of the band, and the only one covering the period when it was active. A live album from the reunion tour, Certifiable: Live in Buenos Aires, would be released in 2007. According to Andy Summers, the idea of releasing an album of live material by The Police went back as far as 1982. Up until that point, a few live tracks had only surfaced on B-sides and compilations such as Urgh A Music. Songs on Albums. The Police were a new wave band which formed in 1977 in London, England. The band consisted of Sting vocals, bass, Andy Summers guitar and Stewart Copeland drums. The band released five albums - Outlandos d'Amour 1978, Reggatta de Blanc 1979, Zenyatta Mondatta 1980, Ghost in the Machine 1982 and Synchronicity 1983 - before entering a hiatus in 1984 and ultimately disbanding in 1986. On January 10, 1980 The Police performed a sellout show at the prestigious Madison Square Garden in New York City. Halfway through the show Stewart's bass drum skin broke. Roadies had to take the kit apart to get to the head and change it. On July 23, 1983 the first show of the Synchronicity worldtour was performed at the Comiskey Park in Chicago. On August 18 The Police performed at Shea Stadium in New York City. All tickets for this show were sold within five hours. Only at two occasions The Police reunited to play live. In June 1986 they performed three shows at the Conspiracy Of Hope tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Amnesty international. The Police headlined in Altanta, Chicago and East Rutherford after performances of Peter Gabriel, Bryan Adams and U2.
