Notes
Piano. Born Jacksonville, Florida, February 14, 1930. Took piano lessons since he was five. Teamed with Willie Ruff. Their duo recordings and club dates in the late 50's were well received by both listeners and critics.
In the early 60's they opened their own club in New Haven, Connecticut, switching from time to time to the Hickory House in New York.
Excellent pianist with good technical abilities. This is the first Atlantic recording in their own club, great Atmosphere.

The catbird seat is an American English idiomatic phrase used to describe an enviable position, often in terms of having the upper hand or greater advantage in any type of dealing among parties. The phrase derives from the common catbird's habit of making mocking calls from a secluded perch. According to Douglas Harper's Online Etymological Dictionary, the phrase refers to the gray catbird and was used in the 19th century in the American South. Release group by The Mitchell-Ruff Trio.
