The Mind Parasites is a science fiction horror novel by English author Colin Wilson. It was Wilson's first and only book published by Arkham House. The book is based on H. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. The novel was published earlier in 1967 by Arthur Barker London, but with a different introduction. It was then reprinted by Oneiric Press Berkeley,CA from 197275, initially by Michael Besher aka Misha PanZobop Paris, France. The Mind Parasites is built around an intriguing idea - that the human mind possess truly miraculous powers, but is held back by an infestation of aliens who feed on our mental energies and reduce man's abilities to a small fraction of what he is truly capable of. The main protagonist, Prof Gilbert Austin, discovers the nature of the parasites by chance, and proceeds to free himself, and then others, or this insidious infection. He then discovers the true capabilities of the human mind. It is a great idea, but is not really developed. The mind parasites. A story as complex as this has no obvious starting point neither am I able to follow Colonel Spencer's suggestion of 'beginning at the beginning and going on to the end', since history has a habit of meandering. The best plan is probably to tell my personal story of the battle against the mind parasites, and to leave the rest of the picture to the historians. My own story, then, begins on the 20th of December 1994, when I returned home from a meeting of the Middlesex Archaeological Society, before whom I had delivered a lecture on the ancient civilizat.
