Info
Lola was the lead single from the album Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One originally released in the UK and the US in June 1970 and. Lola is a song written by Ray Davies and performed by English rock band the Kinks on their album Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One. The song details a romantic encounter between a young man and a possible transvestite, whom he meets in a club in Soho, London. In the song, the narrator describes his confusion towards Lola, who walked like a woman but talked like a man. Although Ray Davies claims that the incident was inspired by a true encounter experienced by the band's manager. The Kinks retreat to the English countryside, which turns out to be just as twisted and frightening as the city. While other bands were getting far out, man, the Kinks were singing pastoral reveries like Animal Farm. Big Sky is an unsentimental ode to a Mother Nature who doesnt care if you live or die Picture Book is the best photo-album song of the pre-Taylor Swift era, except its a cheerful ditty about how we all grow old and die alone. Lola revived The Kinks in America, where they hadn't had a Top 40 hit since Sunny Afternoon in 1966. Their first American tour in 1965 did not go well - they clashed with their promoter, drew sparse crowds, and often played short sets. The group was so petulant, the American Federation of Musicians refused to issue them permits, effectively banning them from the country until 1969. Rick from Harrisburg, Palola,queens- I had the album in 1971. You're wrong. It's the opposite of what you say. Also: and it tastes just like Coca-Cola. David from Youngstown, OhEssentially the same instrumentation as Apeman, another song on the same album. Lola gave the Kinks an unexpected hit and its crisp, muscular sound, pitched halfway between acoustic folk and hard rock, provided a new style for the band. However, the song only hinted at what its accompanying album Lola Versus the Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One was all about. It didn't matter that Ray Davies just had his first hit in years - he had suffered greatly at the hands of the music industry and he wanted to tell the story in song. Hence, Lola - a loose concept album about Ray Davies' own psychosis and bitter feelings toward the music industry. Their only significant hit since 1967, Days, hardly arrested a calamitous, lift-shaft fall which hit bottom with a humiliating 1968 tour of working-mens clubs, bizarrely undertaken as they finished their wistful LP classic The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society, which bombed. Convinced their archaic label Pye only wanted Kinks singles in the age of Sgt. Lola is an attractive transgender woman the narrator is a young man, flattered by the attention paid to him by her. Ray Davis has claimed that he was inspired to write Lola Read More. The album outlines the career trajectory of a band from its humble beginnings to its signing to its success to its downfall. For thematic consistency, well call that band The Contenders. This album starts with the narrator singing a lullaby to his mother wherein he promises her a better life. The narrator then asserts that he does not want a life of labor. Instead, he wants to start a band, and seems to have a good head start
