Baxter also contributed liner sleeve notes for this highly collectible LP, which describes how he witnessed a folk performance on-stage in a Pasadena, CA, club by the leader of the trio, Phil Campos. Campos soon became a student of Baxter's and also became one of Les Baxter's Balladeers, appearing on that folk group's self-titled Reprise album in 1961. The River Is Wide. Play track. Love this track. The River Is Wide was on local Los Angeles charts beginning 81066, and the song first listed in Billboard on Mira 3065 on 122466. Billboard obviously referenced the matrix number on Mira 232 45 single's B side from 66-3065-B, while the hit side matrix was 66-3064-A on the Mira 45. This lone album by The Forum is definitely as perfect as most reviewers here claim it is. The thing that puzzles me is that no one has pointed out that the opening track version of The River Is Wide is NOT REMOTELY the version on the original LP Nor does this version appear as one of the bonus tracks. Songs with River in the Title. A sealed copy of The River is Wide by the Forum, released in 1967. The Forum consisted of Phil Campos, who had previously recorded with The Balladeers folk group, and singers Rene Nole and Riselle Bain. The single was released multiple times on multiple labels in multiple versions, but it did eventually reach the charts. The resulting album is an interesting mishmash of sunshine pop, mild psych, and all with some jazz undertones. The album has developed a bit of a cult following, and is quite hard to find today, as its one of only a couple of albums on the Mira label that ever drew any attention at all.
