Greatest Hits is a 2001 compilation album by The Cure. The band's relationship with longtime label Fiction Records came to a close, and The Cure were obliged to release one final album for the label. Robert Smith agreed to release a greatest hits album under the condition that he could choose the tracks himself. The band also recorded a special studio album released as a bonus disc to some versions of the album. BUT BEWARE The discs are labled incorrectly. Disc 1 is labled Acoustic Hits and it is really the Greatest Hits. Disc 2 is Labled Greatest Hits and it is really the Acoustic Hits. Be prepared to have a DVD player that converts PAL to NTSC. Whatever you do, buy this on for the Acoustic Hits, even if it is labled wrong. Someone who has this box set, please respond. The Cures Greatest Hits album marks the end of the bands contract with Fiction Records, and the end of the bands career in the 20th century, covering all of the bands biggest hits from 1979 to 2001. The compilation was only compiled because of a contractual obligation to do so, but Smith agreed, as long as he got to choose which songs went on it and in what order. It reached 33 on the UK album chart and 58 on the Billboard chart. only showed one side of The Cure and because nearly all of it was the record companys idea anyway. Though I got to influence what songs were on it initially, I didnt want it to be released. It was selling the band too cheap.
