Notes

"A CAPITOL recording, released in Australia exclusively by World Record Club."

Australian WRC 1st pressing, sourced from original stampers and featuring unique sleeve art. "S/5439" on sleeve, "S-5439" on labels. This was the last LP in the December 1972 - November 1973 programme - note the incoming 1974 address (605 replacing 365), and the label layout - tall narrow headers, with all text in bold non-italic font - the typical 1974 style. The next in the label sequence, S/5440, began the May 1972 progamme, and features the older address and label layout.

Info

Mercy, Mercy, Mercy Live at The Club is a 1966 album by jazz musician Julian Cannonball Adderley. It received the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Jazz Performance Group or Soloist with Group in 1967. Though the original liner notes state that it was recorded at the Club DeLisa in Chicago, it was actually recorded at Capitol's Hollywood studio with an invited audience and an open bar. The reason for this discrepancy, according to the liner notes in the CD reissue, is that Adderley and the new. Cannonball Adderley's most popular album, Mercy, Mercy, Mercy wasn't actually recorded Live at 'The Club', as its subtitle says. The hoax was meant to publicize a friend's nightclub venture in Chicago, but Adderley actually recorded the album in Los Angeles, where producer David Axelrod set up a club in the Capitol studios and furnished free drinks to an invitation-only audience. Naturally, the crowd is in an extremely good mood, and Adderley's quintet, feeding off the energy in the room, gives them something to shout about.
