UPDATE on pressingsWe now have a fourth and different pressing UMG-Calderstone EMI-Apple for DeAgostini July 20171. Has a new telephone number catalogue number (PSCP 717 no longer exisits). 2. Sleeve has legal copyright text in white top R-H-C on rear thank god no bar code!3. The labels are a quasi mix up of UK EMI (Parlophone)/Apple original layout script and USA EMI-Capitol/Apple layout and script they now include illegible and crazy tiny gold text on top of the red backing behind the whole and sliced apple, the Stereotext oddly placed and moved locations from whole to sliced side labels.4. (By far the worst) apart from the original 2 accepted mono only mixes on the first 1973 release of Love Me Do and She Loves You.......this digital and remastered pressing now has "Please Please Me" in mono too (3 mono tracks) This defies any logic or reasoning PPM has always been available in it's Stereo mix and was that way on the first edition! This album and it's side 1 of disc 1 has been the most tampered with, tweaked, altered and changed of any UK Beatles albums' editions(The only other that springs to mind as being sonically corrected and thus altered was the late 80's repressing of the UK version of the USA Magical Mystery Tour Album on UK Parlophone with the vile offending USA instigated Duophonic-fake stereo mixes removed and replaced with their correct and true stereo mixes viz: Penny Lane, All You Need Is Love, Baby You're A Rich Man)The Album notes are simply crass they do not list any facts or details about or how this compilation happened, but waffle on about the Beatles this, the Beatles that, how big they had become etc etc (nothing new or of any interest)How about......................1. The two albums ('62-'66 and '67-'70) being Alan 20% Klein's babies, his personal selections and his compilation of track2. The use of the aborted photo for the shelved Get Back album (date taken at EMI Manchester Sq etc) 3. Klein's inststance that the USA edition of the Red set has the quasi James Bond Theme intro (as used in the film and on the USA film soundtrack album) tacked on to Help! Why the UK edition did not have the same!4. The first ever UK coloured vinyl Beatles records 5. The messing about of Stereo to mono back to stereo then all mono etc tracks on side one (for CD release etc etc) what George Martin thoughts were etc why he did what he did and so on..All little nuggets and info that collectors would like to have known about.and would have been of REAL interestAs it is now, with this "new" version this compilation is now a truly cocked up, started by EMI Every Mistake Imagiable! gaff.IMHO this is what should have been pressed and released to DeAgonstini (after all they paid the pressing and printing bills)1. Love Me Do DES (Digitally Extracted Stereo) Mix of The Andy White version and Andy White Added to the track Info2. Love Me Do DES (Digitally Extracted Stereo) Mix of The First and original Ring version added now as the FIRST track so both versions were on this final vinyl version of '62--'66 or, add that gaffed and corrected 50th Anniversary 7" mono single in it's beach towel sleeve but now in a dinked -4pin OC pressing and full width spacing of the groove)3. She Loves You DES (Digitally Extracted Stereo) Mix that does exisit there in 99.9% perfection using backing track to Stereo German Language version and one channel of the mono English Language Version.......hardly an alteration or change just correcting Parlophone procedure and tape wipe gaff!. Calderstone/Apple/UMG need to conceed and admit to this and accept it as THE definitive new and stereo mix of a so spliced and edited and spliced mono mix created by those who know!4, Sleeve inner sleeves (with rounded corners) polylined inners and labels to match 99.9% of the EMI UK originals.5. Red Coloured vinyl + repro of original coloured vinyl stickers as stickers on sheet6 Notes that are all about the compilation the side one disc one changes and why reasons for the mono and stereo changes the USA edition and the tag on to Help!

There are three entirely different UK pressings of the first side (record 1) of this compilation.1. The first and original pressings have tracks A1 (Love Me Do version #2 Andy White)) and A4 (She Loves You) presented in their tweaked mono forms to give a stereo effect not quite duophonic but Hi's on the right channel lows on the left channel.Track A5 (I Want To Hold Your Hand) has centred vocals.2. The updated re-press including the RED Vinyl pressings of 1978+has A1 to A4 all in mono (Please Please Me and From Me To You were the needlessly added mono casualties) the centred vocals mix of I want To Hold Your Hand was again used. The original first UK CD release followed the same mononess of the first 4 tracks.3. The third and final re-press has gone the whole hog and cut all the the six tracks on side 1 in 1 channel mono. Re-manufactured CD's also have the equivalent six tracks monoised.Love Me Do both Ringo and Andy White versions were never mixed for or required in stereo She Loves You as been privately done digitally using the combined elements of the UK mono original and the backing track of the Stereo German Language release. To anyone's ears now the timing, bleed through, wow and flutter and the many many edits cut together to get the original mono master have all been tweaked and matched it sounds incredible and alive. Bearing in mind that it was never recorded like this and since the original spliced together edits and the three track master were wiped, as was the way in those days, once a mono master had been mixed and completed the raw original was no longer needed. The original pressing inner sleeves were of a rough paper texture and had tight rounded corners.Latter pressings have glossy card finish inner sleeves with straight 90 degree corners.Apart from the texture/finish change to the inner sleeves nothing quite as exciting or tragic happened to 1967-1970.
