Tales of Mystery and Imagination is the debut album by the progressive rock group The Alan Parsons Project, released in 1976. The album's avant-garde soundscapes kept it from being a blockbuster, but the interesting lyrical and musical themes - retellings of horror stories and poetry by Edgar Allan Poe - attracted a small audience. The title of the album is taken from a popular title for Poe's macabre tales of the same name, Tales of Mystery & Imagination, first published in 1908 and many times since under this name. Critical reaction to the album was often mixed for read more. The Alan Parsons Project's TALES OF MYSTERY AND IMAGINATION is one of the best horror-themed rock albums ever produced. I had a few Alan Parsons albums back in the 70s and occasionally dip into them for a cherished blast of nostalgia. I have I Robot and Pyramid on vinyl and cd and I was pleased to have digital versions of my scratchy original albums. When I came to buy the cd of Tales of Mystery and Imagination I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Orson Welles followed by totally dated guitar playing which for me ruins this album. The first Alan Parsons Album I bought and still enjoy as, in terms of progressive music one of the leaders of its time. It was released on May 1st, 1976 in the United States by 20th Century Fox Records and on June 1st, 1976 in the United Kingdom by Charisma Records. The title of the album is taken from the title of a collection of Poe's macabre stories of. With the use of synthesizers, drums, guitar, and even a glockenspiel, Parsons' shivering effects make way for an eerie excursion into Poe's well-known classics. On the album's 1987 remix, the instrumental Dream Within a Dream has Orson Welles narrating in front of this wispy collaboration of guitars and keyboards Welles also narrates Fall of the House of Usher: Prelude. This is the debut from the ALAN PARSONS PROJECT. Alan PARSONS himself wasn't thinking that this studio outfit was to last more than ten years and give just as many albums and continuing on in the 1990s as just Alan PARSONS without the Project, since Eric Woolfson went his separate way.
