Tex Morton was born Robert William Lane in Nelson, New Zealand, August 30, 1916. Tex Morton lived a life of breath-taking achievement. In 1932, Tex Morton arrived from New Zealand, aged 16, and humped his swag around outback stations where he began to earn a name as a performer. In 1936 he cut his first commercial records in Australia. Dusty recorded and released his one-hundredth album in the year 2000 and was given the honour of singing Waltzing Matilda in the closing ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Morton worked on various jobs, including one with a travelling troupe known as the Gaieties Of 1932. He made some aluminium disc recordings in Wellington never commercially released, which proved very popular on local radio and may well be the first country music records made outside the USA.
