I have not heard anything as exciting this year. I always recalled Hirasawa when I was in my 20's as the leader of the punky, Devo-ish, hyperkinetic P-Model. I loved that sound. But Hirasawa as a solo artist makes a grand, breathtaking, symphonic surge that is hard to describe without actually hearing it. It's massive. He has taken traditional Japanese modes and updated and electrified it for younger listeners. For every main solo album he releases, Hirasawa also stages an accompanying Interactive Live Show, an interactive concert that merges computer graphics with his music to tell a story.
