Texas Flood is the debut album by texan blues-rock band Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, composed at the time by guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan, bassist Tommy Shannon and drummer Chris Layton. The album was released on June 13, 1983 and would be mainly recorded at Jackson Brownes Down Town Studio in Los Angeles, CA. The story says that after performing in the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1982 and jamming with him until 8 in the morning, Browne offered the band his studio for free. Stevie Rays 1983 debut album made him an unlikely star, slinging Jimi Hendrix-meets-Albert King blues in the era of synths and drum machines. Vaughan displays some superhuman chops on barnburners like Rude Mood and his funky instrumental take on The Isley Brothers Testify. But its the way he pours every ounce of his soul into his leads, especially on slower tunes like the gentle Lenny, that marks him as one of the most gifted guitar stylists of his era-in both blues and rock. Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble released 'Texas Flood,' their double-platinum debut album, on June 13, 1983. Texas Flood rose to the Billboard Top 40, a remarkable achievement for a blues album and for a musician who'd grown up in the considerable shadow of his older guitar-playing brother Jimmie of the Fabulous Thunderbirds. This album moved Stevie to another level. Jimmie showed me a lot of stuff, the younger Vaughan said back in 1983. There was a time when he warned, 'If you ask me to show you anything again, I'll kick your ass. Well, I did and he did Watch Stevie Ray Vaughan Perform 'Texas Flood'
