He had the group record songs written by the Jamaican composer Jackie Edwards, two of which were 1 UK hits in 1965: Keep on Running and Somebody Help Me. When Blackwell set his sights on the American market for the group, he had them record with producer Jimmy Miller and asked them to write an original song that would go over well in the US. Gimme Some Lovin' was the result Miller made the US release. Gimme Some Lovin' is a song written by Steve Winwood, Spencer Davis and Muff Winwood - with the original performance by the Spencer Davis Group. The basic riff of the song was borrowed from the Homer Banks song Ain't That A Lot of Love, written by Banks and Willie Dean Deanie Parker. The Spencer Davis Group was a mid-1960s British beat group from Birmingham, England. In their heyday, the group consisted of Steve Winwood on vocals and keyboards, Steve's brother Muff Winwood played bass, Pete York handled the drums, plus founder and lead-guitarist co-singer Spencer Davis. Their main producer was the late Jimmy Miller
