While YEAR ZERO continues with the pop sensibilities of ALIEN RADIO, there's a noticeable sharper twinkle here. The opening track, This World, has a lovely message, a driving melody, and solid vocals from Tyrone Palmer, while Kill the Pain brings back Dot Allison for some mysterious electro. Sure, the vocals on Fast Lane and Metropolitan Cosmopolitan aren't as strong, but the slow electro groove of Blow your Mind help soften the blow, as does the tech-house-infused Lie to Me.
