DARK FORCES, arguably the best track off Slam's debut album, gets the remix treatment here, and Claude Young is on the job for a harder mix, which doesn't differ greatly melodically, but messes around with the percussion some and adds an interesting interlude. Slam did some pretty amazing productions before the whole ‘Alien Radio’ era. Here, the title track is a fine product but not a big time favorite of mine. And the remixes, well, Claude Young’s take is just fine as well but Kenny Larkin’s version doesn’t really cut it for me. But the two B-sides by Slam are quality productions but in different ways. ‘Sick Organ’ is nice bleepy house slash techno tune with a pure straight forward attitude. I reckon some of you might consider it a bit too repetitive and see it only as a period typical DJ tool but I like it a lot. But I like it because it’s an honest, no bullshit, straight to the point jam. But the real treasure here is ‘Plastic Jazz’. This is a production which I rate to the same category as ‘Eterna’, ‘Positive Education’, what have you. You know, the best Slam productions. Truly great atmospheric UK techno with a Detroit vibe and maybe a slightly more positive take than many other darker Slam productions of this period. ‘Plastic Jazz’ is the reason you buy this record, period, but I do think that this is a quality record from start to finish.

Kenny Larkin also plays with the rhythms some while maintaining the original riff, though the track shifts into its own being 1/3 of the way through. With the b-sides, "Sick Organ" offers an off-kilter tech track with plenty of angular melodies to keep the ears intrigued, while "Plastic Jazz" goes on a shiny tech-house kick. Not much jazz, but plenty of Detroitian groove.
