No Skids fan that ever picked up an air guitar, twirled around the bedroom and punched the air whilst 'whoa.. whoaing' away to (insert favourite Skids album here) will be disappointed with 'Burning Cities'.You expect class production from Youth, but also hats off to Bruce and Jamie Watson for making a seemingly impossible task sound easy. Subtle hints of Skids gone by have been mixed with a tiny flourish of Big Country (check 'A World on Fire') to create a dynamic guitar sound for this album. Some of the lyrics are a bit clunky (especially compared to the sheer poetry of the young Jobbo), but the spirit, commitment and attitude of the band is undoubted. 'Burning Cities' may not win too many new admirers, but it certainly wont lose any old ones. Plenty of tracks here will sit well in the live set with their urgent sound and chant-tastic choruses. I wouldn't be surprised if 'One Last Chance' gets written into the encore alongside fan favourite 'TV Stars'. A great tune, it wouldn't be out of place on 7" white vinyl sitting in a battered paper picture sleeve on my shelf (hint hint). So, put the needle back to the start (again), order concert tickets, make some room in the bedroom and dig out that old air guitar.- Whoa whoah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like that white vinyl comment, I'd settle for 'wide open' red though too ;)
