Pianist Marc-André Hamelin's 2003 recording of Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 1 with Andrew Litton conducting the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra is extremely difficult to sit through. The strings of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra are strident and their intonation is questionable. The trumpet solos of Mark O'Keefe are insufficiently bright and insufficiently soulful. The interpretation of Hamelin and Litton is puerile when it's not prurient. Their phrasing in the Lento is so lubricious as to be lascivious.
