What sinks Terraform more than anything else is the opening track, a ten-minute dirge with a repetitive riff and little else to recommend it. Im all for repetition to a strong build, but the opener here is hard to deny as a weak point in Shellacs sound. Yes, its repetitive post-rock, and Im far from unaware of how the medium works, but there really isnt anything dynamic or nuclear about what is accomplished on the opening track and unfortunately that song takes up. read more.
