Róisín Murphy kept fans waiting nearly a decade for new music when Hairless Toys arrived in 2015, which made the release of Take Her Up to Monto just over a year later all the more surprising. While many artists might coast for a while after releasing a comeback album, this is the kind of unexpected move that's quintessentially Murphy. Recorded during the same five-week sessions that resulted in Hairless Toys, Take Her Up to Monto often feels like that album's counterpart. Continuing the process of re-emergence that began with 2014's Mi Senti EP and 2015's critically acclaimed, Mercury Prize nominated album 'Hairless Toys', 'Take Her Up To Monto' is an album which crackles with wild invention. If 'Mi Senti' EP was a love letter to Murphy's creative life, then the sessions that followed were a full-blown symphony. Five intensive weeks working alongside long term musical collaborator Eddie Stevens resulted in enough material for two albums. Hairless Toys' served to ease her audience into this new. Released just one year after her last, 2015s Mercury Prize-nominated Hairless Toys, Róisín referred to this album as its little sibling. She stated in an interview that Hairless Toys is a much more cohesive, subtle, kind of all gelled together type of statement. And what we got on Monto was the more extreme parts of the personality. Its a more pointy and complex record. Take Her Up To Monto Q&A. Mixing the dramaticTake Her Up to Monto, along with last year's Hairless Toys, is undoubtedly among the finest albums of the last few years. Mixing the dramatic and the mellow, surprising the listener with unconventional song structures and unexpected key changes often within one song, THUTM is one sonic extravaganza. I find this album horrible, as most of R. Murphy's albums. Coldly mechanised pointless technical solutions and chaotic, ad-hoc ideas as always, apart from 1-2 tracks. The "progresses" are monkeying, and there's almost no music in the songs but changes of chords and pitch, but that I wouldn't call music yet. Very overrated. Technically there's nothing new (as always) but mixture of little this and little of that but not too much of anything in order to avoid achieving a real character. The most irritating is that most of the songs are in pieces and is disturbed as usual. Vocal is OK, synth usage is acceptable but the production is extremely accidental and all the elements seems to be interchangeable and that is the worst of all. First track is one of her bests.

One man's poison is another man's delight. Some of the elements you list seem like pluses to me.
